Important steps for a successful installation Start connecting the wires immediately
Before installing DSDs, you should take some simple precautions. DSDs should be handled with care in a static free environment. To discharge static electricity, touch the grounded water pipe or bare metal plate surface before handling the DSD. Work in a clean, well lit area on a non-conductive surface. Metal chips and dirt may enter the circuit of the DSD and cause a short circuit. Never remove the protective shrink tube from the decoder. First, it will void your warranty, and second, you will damage part of the decoder's built-in thermal management system. Do not connect the decoder when it is powered on. Doing so will lead to accidents. Ensure that all electrical connections are insulated. Avoid using electrical tape as much as possible because it will spread over time. We suggest using heat shrinkable tubes instead. Never let the decoder lead touch any DCC track wiring, unless specially designed for this purpose. Do not short-circuit the speaker output. Do not short-circuit the motor outputs together. Do not exceed the output rating of the decoder design.
DSD function test
Although each DSD has been fully tested before shipment and is ready for installation, we urge you to test your decoder before installing it on your locomotive! We have developed a simple program (see Appendix B) to ensure that DSDs work properly before installation. If this is your first sound or decoder installation, it will give you more confidence, because as long as you follow the installation instructions... it will work! If you really have a problem, please contact your dealer or turn up the throttle! Seek technical assistance first. If the decoder cable is not cut off, we will be happy to refund or replace any decoder that fails the function test for free
