Disconnect all wires to both motor terminals. Please note that some motor brush connections use spring contacts to connect to the chassis. Next, use a voltmeter or continuity tester to verify that each motor terminal is electrically isolated from the left and right rail pickups. After the meter is set to the ohm scale, touch the two meter probes together, and note that the meter indicates 0 ohm (short circuit). You don't want to see this instruction again! Touch one of the probes to one of the motor brush terminals. Contact the other probe with the locomotive frame, then contact the left track power pickup wire, and finally contact the right track power pickup wire. Move the first probe to the other motor brush terminal and repeat the test. If all tests indicate an open circuit, the motor is properly isolated. Do not continue until you have completed this operation.
